This is a fine lough, conveniently situated along the Killorglin-Waterville road, 7 miles south of Killorglin. It is fished mainly for its brown trout, but gets a run of grilse from July and upwards of 30 fish are taken annually – mostly by anglers fishing for trout. The trout come four to the pound and are taken mostly on very small flies – mainly size 14. Useful patterns are Bibio, Claret and Jay, Claret Bumble, Black Pennell, Peter Ross and Butcher. The southern part of the lough between the inflowing and outflowing river is the most productive area and can produce up to 50 trout in a day. This is certainly a good place to teach the children. There are boats and outboards and boatmen available.
