Fishery Report » Aasleagh Lodge & River Erriff Fishery
[ May 2008 ]

James Stafford reports that Aasleagh Lodge has now re-opened for the Angling season. Two new self catering Cottages with en-suite bedrooms have been completed by the end of the month. The Cottages have stunning views of Killary Harbour and the surrounding mountains are fully furnished and are available throughout the season for short or long term letting.
Although some good sized Springers have been recorded through the Counter at Aasleagh Falls fishing was slow on the Erriff with un-favourable weather conditions. The main Springer run looks like being similar to last season when large fish were taken in June and July. The first Springer of the season was taken on a Shrimp pattern from the Colonel’s Pool Beat 6 by Mr. B. Marshall, UK. Mr. Herve Chadenat, France caught the first Grilse of the season in the Falls Pool Beat 9 on a Cascade.
The quota for the Erriff Fishery has been increased to almost 500 salmon for the season and we are optimistic that we will see a further improvement in the run of Summer fish right into September. A new boat had been put on Derrintin Lough and it is available for wild brown trout fishing.
Angling and accommodation in Aasleagh Lodge and two new self catering Cottages are available throughout the Summer months.
