Although some good sized Springers have been recorded through the Counter at Aasleagh Falls fishing was slow on the Erriff with un-favourable weather conditions reports Jim Stafford. The Spring run was late like last season. The first Springer weighing 8.5lbs. was taken on the Ist. June on a Ruby Shrimp fly from the Colonel’s Pool Beat 6 by Mr. B. Marshall, UK. Mr. Marshall took another fish of 7.25lbs. from the Broken Bridge Pool a few days later. Mr. Herve Chadenat, France caught the first Grilse of the season in the Falls Pool Beat 9 on a Cascade. A Red Alley Shrimp fly was successful for Mr. Selby Knox U.K. catching a 8.75lbs. fish in the Broken Bridge Pool on Beat 5 on 5th. June. Mr. S. Hartigan, Irl took a grilse on a Cascade in the Falls Pool Beat 9. Mr. P. Thorp, U.K. had two fresh run grilse both on Beat 9. Mr. A Patrick took a 5.75 fish from Doyles Pool on Beat 6. Jane Beattie, N. Irl. took a fresh grilse from the Garden Pool on Beat 9. Mr. J. Dardis, Irl caught a 5.25lbs. on a Apache Shrimp on Poleen Beat 4. Mr. P. Hunt, Irl. took a 4.5lbs grilse from Doyles Pool on a Cascade.
The quota for the Erriff Fishery has been increased to almost 500 salmon for the season and with excellent water conditions for the last few days the main run of grilse has commenced we are optimistic that we will see a further improvement in the run of Summer fish right into September.
