Rock House

Things are, we are glad to say, are improving as the season goes on, in no small way making up for the dry May and June we endured.

Sean Lysagh and Chris Huxley were first across the line for August with 3 salmon. Tim Murray followed up a few days later with a nice salmon, while Sean and Chris made a return trip to take 1 salmon and return another.

The best single days fishing so far this season on the Rock House beat, was on the 17th of August when regular client Oísín O'Sullivan kept 2 salmon, released 3, and released also 1 sea trout, on the same day. - Chris Huxley had 2 salmon and Sean Lysagh kept 1 salmon and released 1, a total for the day of 8 salmon and 2 seatrout, stunning scenery, good company and great fishing, a good day by anyone's standards.
Declan and brother Eamon fished on the 18th, Declan took a salmon on dropping water.
Frank Hughes and John Fitzgerald followed up on the 19th with 4 seatrout including a 4 pounder landed by Frank on the day; most seatrout were 1 to 2 pounds while the salmon/grilse ranged from 3 to 6 pounds.

There were dry spells on and off but most weeks had good fishing conditions, with soft winds and not too many midges. A feature of this year’s fishing has been the small quantity of midges for most of the season, the heavy longterm frost and snow of last winter had no small part to play in this, so anglers can now scratch less and fish more!!!.

Overall the catch for August was 17 salmon and 9 seatrout. The article about the Rock House Fishery in the September issue of IRISH ANGLER looks great and, with some kind and true words.

Anglers now have the opportunity to stay in Rock House by the individual day/night B/B Style or even on half-board basis ; great news for our day ticket clients.

Tight Lines till next month............
