[ September 2010 ]
September promised much with a lot of fish showing however, the overall catch was down, mainly due to the low numbers of anglers in the later half of the month. John Brennan released 2 salmon on the 7th and Tim Murry had a salmon on the 8th on a red shrimp fly, and again on the 9th, Tim remarked that there were fish rising everywhere in the morning, the pools seemed well stocked as one would suspect for September.
Two journalists from Trout and Salmon fished on the10th along with Marcus Muller from the North West Fishery Board, they had a pleasant day and did not leave the Owenduff without landing and releasing a small grilse (on a Red Ally shrimp yet again). And our regulars Jamie and Simon Ryan paid us again a visit and caught also some salmon.
As I write this with 2 days left to fish, catch for September so far is 9 salmon and 2 seatrout. Grilse were for the most part very small, some weighed in 2 to 3 pounds, while sea trout were in very good condition (numbers were low in general), although 2 months of dry weather with no spate was also a factor.
Overall fishing was good and numbers of salmon showing were encouraging, when conditions were right in good water.
