[ April 2011 ]
Fishing at Ballynahinch for May has been very good considering our spring fishing is traditionally very quiet. Over the past week 2 fantastic fresh spring salmon were landed from Beat 1 and two others were lost. The fish, 13lb and 9lbs, were taken by Alan Hannon and Tom McManus respectively. The sea trout have started to arrive over the past couple of days and we landed our first sea trout yesterday. The fish, taken from Beat 2 was a fine 2lb fish in great condition. Brown trout fishing has picked up also with the warm weather. British visitor, Barry Cooper, had a great day taking 6 browns up to 2lbs using an emerger pattern.
We are expecting a bumper year for summer grilse fishing at Ballynahinch as it is 4 years since the drift net fishery was closed. Lets keep our fingers crossed!
