[ June 2011 ]

Although June 2011 did not match the dizzying angling highs of May it was still good fishing as the rain was not so consistent as the previous month, and was 100% better than June 2010 which was a virtual drought.
Bob Brennan had 2 salmon early on and 1 seatrout ; patchy rain on and off marked a pattern for June and it was great to see Patrice Fouquoire and Christian Sudre staying in Rock House Lodge, on their first salmon fishing trip to Ireland getting great fishing, having a catch of 7 salmon 1 more than 2 kg and 4 seatrout for their week’s fishing.
This truly shows the potential of tourist fishing when fish stocks are allowed to recover, as Mr Fouquoire and Mr Sudre will most certainly return in 2012.
Regular angler Oshin O’Sullivan had a good day on the 19th catching 2 salmon and 2 seatrout.
Declan Little, no stranger to Rock House also had 2 salmon on the 21st and hit it just right as the day before the water was very low and no fish were caught ; a few hours rain makes a big difference on the Owenduff, the weather and the fishing on a spate river can be fickle but highly rewarding especially in this beautiful and truly remote river.
16 salmon and 19 seatrout was a most respectable count for June 2011 with seatrout season just kicking in and just to note that over half the fish for June were released, glad to see anglers are doing their bit for salmon and seatrout conservation, and hope the government of the day do theirs!!!
Tight lines.
