Fishery Report » Delphi Lodge and Fishery
[ September 2011 ]

Salmon fishing often picks up in September as fish tend to get a bit more aggressive. As the song goes “There were days like this” and there were the other where salmon had absolutely no respect for even the best of anglers. The weather also got increasingly Autumnal with some heavy rain 335.8mm (13.22”) in total and some extremely windy weather.
We had 102 fish for the month. 53 of these were up to and including the 29th . We had 49 on the 30th but this is a staff and local day where all methods of rod fishing are allowed.
Maxi Schiedt got the first fish of the month on the 4th with a fine 8.5lbs fish off Finlough on a Bruiser Bumble. There were also fish in that week for Peter Eaton, Leander Schilling (first ever), David Rainford had two, Martin and Barbara Ceillier had one each, Ian Carroll had one and Maxi Schiedt had a second.
The following week was more successful with 16 fish being landed. Top rod for the week was Mark Corps with 6; followed by Mike Shortt with 3, including one of 12lbs. Fish were also landed by Martyn Gregory, Edwin Boyd, Mike Heckler, Peter Willmott, Chad Young (first ever) , David McEvoy and Lennart Konvalin.
The third week we landed 22 fish with the Westropp party accounting for 9 of these including a first ever for Christian Fortune. Jack Browne landed 4; while the Konvalin father and son team of Heribert and Lennart shared the spoils with 2 each; Sean Moogan had one; Elizabeth Birdthistle had a first ever; Pierre Siboni had one and Donal Roche had two and lost two in a session on Doolough.
In the final week there were fish for Hans Schroeder, Johannes Hipp, Peter O’Reilly, Marks Corps, Jeremy Neiboer and a first ever for Stephane Lamotte. Fish of the week had to go to Hans Schroeder who landed a sea liced 9lbs1oz fish from Finlough stream.
The 30th was a great day with many people getting a chance to fish that normally wouldn’t. We had a great bbq at lunch time and there were many happy people by the close of play.
That brought season total to 531 salmon which is an excellent return. This was made up 258 grilse and 273 springers. The spring fishing this year was as good as it gets.
Sea trout on the other hand were very disappointing with only 354 landed compared to 604 in 2010.
