[ June 2009 ]
Peter Mantle reports that with 74 salmon caught in June, it was a successful month at Delphi, despite generally bright, hot weather and low water conditions. Thirty seven (50%) of the fish were taken from the river, notably from the Turn Pool, 29 from Finlough and 8 from Doolough. As of the end of June the total catch for the season stands at 280 salmon.
The best fish of the month was a 12.5-pounder taken from Doolough by Tim Knatchbull. Top rod was Jonathan Smalley, with five fish for his week.
Some fair numbers of grilse arrived in the latter part of the month but the main run has not yet arrived. Happily, numbers of prematurely-returning sea-liced sea trout were negligible, boding well for the summer.
