Fishery Report » Delphi Lodge and Fishery
[ August 2010 ]

A total of 82 salmon were caught at Delphi in August - 22 of them wild and 61 tagged fish of hatchery origin. This brings the total for the season to 260 salmon (65 of them wild).
The river produced 38, Finlough 35 and Doolough 10. Top rod was Urs Leibundgut with 16 salmon in 13 days. Hugh Brennan had 8 in 6 days. Mark Corps, Paul Wymes and Marcus Merz had 5 fish each. The best fish were Mark Corps' 11-pounder from the Turn Pool and Hugh Brennan's 10.5-pounder from Gough's Bay on Finlough.
There is a substantial head of fish now in the system, but water levels are low and the atmosphere a little lugubrious. We are hopeful of some more good salmon days in the wake of the next flood, which some forecasters say is coming this week.
While there were a few reasonable bags of sea trout off Doolough, the catches have been disappointing and Glencullin Lough has yet to really deliver. The daddy-long-legs hatches are now underway (some weeks later than usual) and it will be interesting to see whether they make a difference in the final month of the season.
