Fishery Report » Delphi Lodge and Fishery
[ July 2012 ]

Angling for July at Delphi was steady but nothing spectacular. Most of the fish we are getting are still sea liced so there are still fresh fish coming in. Total salmon landed for the month is 67.
The first week in July was disappointing and extremely frustrating from a fishing perspective. Conditions were good but we only managed to land 10 salmon. Fish were landed by Hans Majeron (Germany), Raul de Waha (Germany), Alan Molloy, Brian O’Donohoe and Bob Lawlor. Urs had 2 and Giovanni Mazzoleni from Florence had 3.
We had slightly better fishing the second week with 13 salmon landed. Urs had the lions share of the fish with 5 landed, Ciaran Boland 2, Fishery manager David McEvoy finally got off the mark with 2, Klaus Buening 1 and then Ted Maxted who well into his 80’s managed to hook and land on his own a lovely 7lbs fish.
There were also 2 first ever salmon; Charmaine Reynolds who landed a 4lbs fish on Doolough aided by her brother John Faith.
Then there was Mary Martha Waltz from California who finally landed her elusive first after 6 visits over 6 years. The fish was 4lbs13ozs from Cooleens and was taken on an Allie Shrimp. This was definitely fish of the month and probably fish of the year just for shear determination and effort.
The third week was much better with 22 salmon landed. Top rod this week was Alan Boyd with 8, followed by Brian Shaw with 4 including one of 15lbs, Chris Jarman with 3 and Andrew Killeen with 2. Fish were also taken by Helen Westropp, Anthony Clifton Brown, Grace McMillan, Andrew Brough and David McEvoy.
This week was unusual in that there were two extremely good and experienced anglers who blanked; Ken McMIllan and George Westropp.
The fourth week wasn’t bad either with 18 fish landed and the midges the worst we had witnessed in years.
Top rod for the week was Chris Jarman with 3, closely followed by John and Alexander Mills who had 2 each, Ivan Shenkman who had 2 including his first ever and Barry Farrell who had 2. The following also had salmon; Conor O’ Leary, Peter Curling, Ciaran Boland, David Desborough, Bob Hadden, Kevin Gill and David McEvoy.
There were 4 more fish for July, 3 taken by the Beattie’s, William and Garret and 1 by Declan O’Mahony.
That brings total salmon for the season to date to 219.
There is definitely an improvement in sea trout this year both in quality and numbers with 101 lande for the month of July. It’s early days yet but it does look promising for the rest of the year.
