Fishery Report » Mount Falcon Country House Hotel
[ July 2009 ]

Jim Wilson reports that a total of 212 salmon were caught on the Mount Falcon water in July.
The first week saw 47 taken, 13 of these were on the fly (during the month fluctuating water height meant that fly fishing was only possible for a few days in any given week). Will O’Connor from Wexford had a fine fish of 9.5 lbs on the fly from Connor’s Gap. Mr John Fitzgerald from U.K. caught three salmon on the fly.
The second week produced 46 salmon. Peter Hughes and son, newcomers to salmon fishing, had 6 fish over 2 days. Their best fish weighed 9lb. Ellis Fellows a regular visitor to Mount Falcon caught 3 in an afternoon. The 10 fish taken on the fly included a first fly caught fish for Martin Davison, N.Ireland.
A food during the third week of July brought a run of fresh grilse into the river and a total of 59 salmon were caught. The Royal Fishing Club from Germany enjoyed a bumper weekend catching 25 salmon.
Good fishing continued in the last week and the Miller party from England caught 18 of the 60 salmon taken in the week.
