[ June 2009 ]

Fishing in June on the Rock House beat of the Owenduff was in stark contrast to Mays bumper crop of fresh large fish. A hot and dry June virtually throughout the month denied the large build up of fresh grilse and sea trout in the outer estuary, the opportunity to run through to the upper river system.
Fish in the shallower water have retreated to the deeper holding pools on the beat.
Due to Mays exceptionally prolific run of fish, conditions could be somewhat cramped. Reports of good numbers of sea trout and salmon in the estuary bode well for when the never far away Irish rain arrives on the Nephin Beg hills.
Weather conditions at the closing days of June have seen localised rain but not in sufficient quantities to counter the recent dry spell.
