Week 20 is always busy here in Delphi. It combines a group of anglers who have been coming to Delphi for quite some time and it must be said that the craic is always mighty. This year the fishing was not as productive as normal, as the team of experienced anglers were faced with very difficult conditions for most of the week with very low water until Friday, when we got some rain which was then followed up by heavy showers on Saturday.
First off the mark for the week was Christopher Jarman who had a lovely fish of 9lbs4ozs from the Quarry Run on an Arabelle Shrimp in bright sunshine with the river running at 5 on Monday. Peter Milne also had a fish from Finlough of approx. 7lbs on a Silver Stoat.
Even though much was promised there was only some light rain over the next few days with the river getting to 15 by Thursday. Christopher Jarman was on the mark again with a fish of approx. 7lbs from the Grilse pool on an Arabelle Shrimp. Leigh Hookes also had a beautiful 11lbs fish off Beat 9 on the Erriff.
All anglers were a little slow to get going on Friday as a rather big night was had by all on Thursday. The day started wet but it wasn’t really till the afternoon that the effects were seen on the river, which went to 50. Ciaran Boland had a nice fish on Friday evening of 10lbs1oz from the Turn pool on a Cascade.
On Saturday the river was in perfect order and Steve Smith had a lovely fish from the Grilse Pool of 10lbs15ozs on a Willie Gunn and lost another in the Rock Pool. Iwona Grochowska also had a fish in the afternoon from the Whin Pool on a Cascade of 9lbs8ozs and finally Marks Corps had one off Finlough of 8lbs6ozs on a Willie Gunn.
On Saturday evening the river was still at 45, but it will probably be tapering down slowly as it looks like we are in for another settled week and hopefully a few more fish.
